Maybe your sleep gets worse, you feel more bloated Maybe your sleep gets worse, you feel more bloated, moody, or just… out of sorts.

It’s easy to brush it off as coincidence -  or even call it a myth.

But there may be a biological reason your body reacts that way.

A 2013 study published in Current Biology (Cajochen et al.) found that people experienced reduced melatonin levels and poorer sleep around the full moon - even in a completely dark sleep lab, where they couldn’t see the moonlight.

This matters because melatonin isn’t just a sleep hormone.
It also supports your immune system, helps regulate your gut, and influences how you manage stress.

So when melatonin dips - even slightly -  you may feel the ripple effects in multiple areas:
😴 Poorer sleep
😣 More stress or anxiety

Of course, this study had a small sample size, and more research is still needed.

But it supports something many people have sensed for a long time:
Our bodies respond to the rhythms of nature.

The moon, the light, the tides -  they don’t just affect the ocean. We’re part of this same world, and it makes sense that our bodies, especially our nervous and hormonal systems, might respond too.

It’s not about fear or superstition.
